Former Philips Executive joins the artificial intelligence startup Corti

Florian Schwiecker is among the most senior sales executives worldwide within speech workflow and automated speech recognition (ASR). He has been working in the ASR space since 2002, and latest, he was spearheading Philip’s Speech Processing Solutions’ commercial endeavors, leading a global salesforce that has been able to challenge and secure a major market share in the fierce ASR space. Florian is a successful serial entrepreneur, a former lawyer by trade, a bestselling novelist, and much more - a genuine enigma. 

To get to know Florian more, we asked him a few questions. 

How did you first encounter speech intelligence? 

During my first internship at a law firm, I had to do a lot of note-taking. One day, my boss told me if he ever sees me typing again, he will fire me. From that moment on, I started recording my voice notes and ditched typing. Using speech technology makes you way more efficient, and I quickly learned how to communicate because I had to think about what I was saying. 

Why are you excited to join Corti? 

The ASR space is standing on the cusp of a new era defined by artificial intelligence, which will enable a new generation of software products not just to transcribe audio, but to help make decisions on-the-go, and exponentially improve workflows. I believe Corti is uniquely positioned to win a billion-dollar market share of the global ASR and intelligent decision support market, and I’m extremely excited to be a part of this journey.

Corti is geared for success; the vision, the impact of the product, people, and the culture is top-notch.

What will you be first focusing on, as you step into your role? 

Understanding our customers’ pain points, and transferring these learnings to everything we do to scale even faster. My passion is to create meaningful products that stick and provide long-term benefits to customers and patients around the world.  The complexity in intelligent software solutions is to really make it simple, for which I’ll need a deep understanding of our customers’ workflow, to help facilitate. 

What will you be bringing to Corti? 

Ultimately, I believe that the ASR and artificial intelligence industry is in its’ early days. The exciting part is to help shape where it’s going next. I have been leading small and large software companies globally, and I have seen great products fail because they lacked the right go-to-market strategy or vice versa. Over the last 20 years, I made many mistakes, but I've built a lot of experience scaling products like Corti’s and I believe that I can bring this experience to the table, which will be meaningful to Corti. 

What do you want to get right that you often see others fail at when scaling commercial operations?

I strongly believe in implementing a winning spirit. I developed a highly competitive personality during my young adult years when I did many competitive sports. This competitive spirit carries through to the business context - but you can only win with a clear goal and mission in focus.
